| This is Spirit. She is a very special girl to us as we have decided to use her to remember all the SOS dogs that have gone before us. Why we picked her, because she is special and in a sense, she is a miracle. Spirit is known as a GELBER GSP. What is based off of her color. Her mother and her father are both liver roan. They each had to carry the recessive gene for her color. Not just one parent, they BOTH need to be carrying it. So, it was just the right match up for Spirit to be Gelber. She also has a sister who is Gelber and all the other pups in the litter are liver roan. Now, one would think that Spirit would have pups that looked like her. That is not necessarily true. She needs to be carrying the recessive gene and we need a male who also carries the recessive gene. So, chances are so slim that we will ever get a Gelber GSP from Spirit. After calling AKC, they said there has only ever been 6 Gelber GSP's registered(at the time we called). So, this is rare and we are so blessed to have been able to add Spirit to our kennel. Check back from time to time to see her progress as she grows and starts working the field. We are so excited! |
